MLS Experience
2008: In his first season with the Black-and-Red, Zach Wells played in 17 MLS games (all starts) and posted a 8-8-1 record, with one shutout. The goalkeeper was featured in United's three SuperLiga games before suffering from sesmoiditis in late August. Wells was forced to remain on the sidelines but made a successful recovery the following month to start in four CONCACAF Champions League games. In all competitions in 2008, Zach Wells played in 31 games (all starts) and put together a record of 13-15-3.2007: Wells played in four MLS games (three starts) for the Houston Dynamo, posting a 2-0-1 record, with two shutouts. He allowed only one goal, putting together a 0.32 goals against average. Wells also made two appearances in SuperLiga play earning a win and a draw. In CONCACAF Champions' Cup play to begin the year, he made two appearances as Houston captured a win and suffered a loss with Wells between the pipes.
2006: Obtained by Houston from New York on 1/20 for a 2006 fourth round MLS SuperDraft pick. Wells went on to start nine games in the Reserve Division for Houston, allowing only 11 goals (1.22 goals-against average) and putting together a 5-0-2 record. He did not see regular-season action with the first team, but played in a U.S. Open Cup game on 8/2 against the Carolina Dynamo (PDL).
2005: Wells started 17 games as a member of the MetroStars, putting together a 6-4-7 record to go along with a 1.24 goals against average record. The goalkeeper had four shutouts while logging 1,530 minutes in net.
2004: Wells was selected by the MetroStars in the third round (21st overall) of the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. He saw action two first team games - a 3-1 loss at San Jose Earthquakes on 6/12 and a 2-1 victory over LA Galaxy on 6/19.
International
2006: Wells earned his first call-up to the U.S. Men's National Team camp and made his U.S. debut against Guatemala on 2/19, playing the last 10 minutes in a 4-0 victory in Frisco, Texas.
College
2003: Wells set a UCLA record with the lowest season goals-against average (0.52) in school history. He also set a school record with 269 career saves and finished his time as a Bruin with 49 career victories. Wells was named Sports Illustrated On Campus National Player of the Year, First Team All-Pac 10, Second team CoSIDA Academic All-American, First team CoSIDA Academic All-District and Pac-10 All-Academic selection.2002: Wells collected 17 victories for the Bruins during his junior year, ranking 5th on UCLA's single-season charts. He finished second in the conference in goals against average (0.76), placing him in the Top 20 in the nation. Wells was named Pac-10 Player of the Week twice (10/8 and 10/29), was the College Cup Defensive MVP, named to College Soccer News Honorable Mention All-American and was Second Team NSCAA All-Far West and All-Pac-10 selection.
2001: Wells set a single-season school record with 101 saves and ranked second among Pac-10 starters with a 0.85 goals against average. He earned a Pac-10 high nine shutouts and held a shutout streak of 541 minutes from Oct. 21-Nov. 11, with a season save percentage of .828. He was named as a Second Team All-Pac 10 selection and as the Defensive MVP at the UCLA Pacific Soccer Classic. Wells was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week and selected to Soccer America's Team of the Week.
2000: Wells played in four games for the Bruins and earned three shared shutouts.
1999: Wells was redshirted during his first year at UCLA due to injury.
